Best of both worlds ?
Resistance band training has many advantages, but we should not be dogmatic and
rule out conventional weight training.
For example, a good approach is to train at home with bands and body weight
during the week, and at the gym during the weekend. This gives us some advantages:
- Avoid overcrowded gym during weeknights, and spend less overall time.
- Band training is easier to recover from, easier on the joints.
- During the weekend, the gym is less crowded and more enjoyable. I have more time
then.
- Conventional weights give better metrics for strength progress.
- More load in the stretched position can be beneficial.
- More choice of equipment - the gym has many "toys" I don't have at home, and
the Band Box lets me do some exercises (e.g. belt squat or heavy one arm row)
that my gym doesn't have.
- Variety is the spice of life...
